Laser treatments can deliver stunning results — smoother texture, more even tone, tighter skin, and that lit-from-within glow. But before you dive in, it’s essential to lay the groundwork for success. This isn’t just about booking an appointment — it’s about being thoughtful, intentional, and fully informed. Because when you treat your skin like the investment it is, the returns are next-level.
Here’s your full-page, pre-treatment checklist to make sure your journey into the world of lasers starts smart, safe, and glow-ready.
Know Your Skin
Before choosing a laser, you have to know your baseline.
- What’s your Fitzpatrick skin type? This determines how your skin handles sun exposure — and laser energy.
- Are you prone to post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH)? If you’ve ever darkened after a breakout or bug bite, your skin is more reactive.
- Do you have active acne, rosacea, or eczema? Some lasers can flare these conditions, while others can help them. What products are in your current skincare lineup? Retinoids, AHAs, BHAs, and benzoyl peroxide can make skin more sensitive — and might need a pause pre-laser.
Clarify Your Goals
It’s not just about wanting "better skin." Be specific.
- Are you treating dark spots, broken capillaries, scarring, redness, or fine lines?
- Are you aiming for a quick refresh or a full-on skin transformation?
- What’s your tolerance for downtime? (Can you rock post-laser flaking on a Monday Zoom?)
- What timeline are you working with? Big event? Bridal countdown? Be realistic about what can be achieved — and when.
