What you do before and after matters just as much as what’s in the syringe.

Injectables might look like a simple in-and-out treatment, but there’s a reason the best results come from patients who are informed, prepared, and follow through. A little planning makes your treatment smoother, your outcome better, and your recovery easier.

Before Your Appointment

  • Avoid blood thinners for 3–5 days (if medically appropriate): this includes aspirin, ibuprofen, fish oil, turmeric, vitamin E, and especially alcohol.
  • No intense workouts or facials 8 hours before your treatment.
  • No dental procedures 7 days before (or after) your treatment.
  • Disclose everything: medications, supplements, past cosmetic procedures, allergies, medical history (especially autoimmune issues or history of cold sores). Hydrate well — filler loves water, and so does your skin.
  • No makeup on or around the treatment area. It will need to be removed anyway.
  • Mentally prep for a little swelling or bruising — especially if it’s your first time or you're treating a sensitive area like lips or under-eyes.
  • Take arnica. You can find it at major grocery stores and pharmacies under the brand
  • ArniCare. The sublingual tablets are best used 3 days prior and after your treatment to prevent and treat bruising.

Don’t...

  • Book your appointment the day before a big event or photoshoot.
  • Arrive sunburned, freshly tanned, or with an active skin breakout.
  • Show up late and rushed. You want your injector calm, focused, and ready to map your face
  • like a masterpiece — not speed-run your consult.

Aftercare Basics

  • Skip saunas, steam rooms, and hot yoga for 24–48 hours.
  • No facials or massages over the treated area for at least 1 week.
  • You can sleep with your head elevated the first night, especially after filler if you want to be extra careful.
  • Don’t poke, squish, or rub the area — let the product settle.
  • Ice sparingly and only if advised — never apply ice packs directly to skin.
  • Expect swelling or asymmetry in the first few days — trust the two to three week window.

Pro Tips

  • Plan your treatments smartly: neuromodulators take ~2 weeks to kick in; fillers settle in ~2 weeks as well. Time your events accordingly.
  • Ask your injector for customized prep and aftercare — some products and areas require special instructions.
  • Stacking treatments? Your provider may space them out intentionally. Trust the pacing. Good injectables are built, not rushed.

The best results don’t just come from what’s injected — they come from how you prepare, how you heal, and how well you and your injector work as a team.
